Discussion about Various - Groovy Sound 6

Just like Hit Box 13 by FM Records, which is kind of like the "big brother" of this compilation, Groovy Sound 6 is a rather obscure product of its time (1997): the Eurodance and Rave scenes were heavily declining in Greece at the time, and this showed in compilations like Hit Box 13 (which I thoroughly reviewed) and the much more obscure Groovy Sound 6. Speaking of which, it was a rather fortunate thrift store find, as I had no idea that there was a Groovy Sound No. 6 after No. 5. Well, here it is, brought to the light for all to see...So, is it any good? I'd say it "performs" just like Hit Box 13, and suffers from pretty much the same problems: too much carnival-like Europop and Downtempo, however there are some decent tracks too, and overall it is pleasant to listen throughout. You could say that it's a "Hit Box 13, part two" of some kind (and in fact, Hit Box 13 is advertised in the internal sleeve!).If you don't want to read the Hit Box 13 review, here goes: while there are some "strong" Euro/Rave names like Alexia/EYE/Red 5/2 Brothers On The 4th Floor etc. however the track selection is so-so, and there are lot of annoying house/europop/carnival tracks in the lot. Most of them are from obscure singles or album b-sides, without that meaning that they are an unpleasant listen. At least there's not that dreadful, depressing tone of Hit Box 14 (though I can't imagine what a hypothetical Groovy Sound 7 would be like).Overall, Groovy Sound 6 leaves you in a good mood, but by no way impressed. All I could think was "they could do better". So...yeah, Groovy Sound 6 is still "groovy" to a degree, and in my book it gets a well-deserved "3" but no way more than that.
