Discussion about Andre Williams With The Diplomats Of Solid Sound - Aphrodisiac
Reggy
★★★☆☆☆ The 50's/60's New Orleans legend André Williams really made a comeback in recent years combining his aged and smokey vocals with backing by some young and fresh cats. His "Silky" album IMO is his best of the recent years, taking a fresh take on both country and garagerock. This album - as the titel may suggest - is an R&B bedroom-album, with a funky, low-key tongue-in-cheek style and rather inexplicit lyrics. Sometimes the originals aren't the best, Williams may - I'm guessing - very well have been one of the influences for UK 70's funk/punk act Ian Dury and The Blockheads, as this album sounds indeed very much like they did on e.g. their bedroom-funk "Wake up & be thankful" and many others - but they actually are funkier - and with humor too. Go with "Silky" - or Dury.
